The Australian Shepherd Association of New South Wales was formed in 1996 as a social club.  In 1998 it was the first Australian Shepherd club in Australia to become affiliated with one of Australia's canine control councils.  It was also the first to hold an Australian Shepherd speciality conformation show and obedience trial.

The aim of the Association is to promote the attributes of the Australian Shepherd as well as responsible dog ownership.
